In the glass:
The llama malbec showed a brilliant purple color in the glass. I tasted it along with a couple of other wines (a $14 Sangiovese and a $7 Granacha) which helped me really differentiate its subtle flavors. The nose had huge notes of black cherry and roses. A first sip revealed a big bright malbec with flavors of blackberrys and spice fading into long and savory finish. Oak and tannins were matched with a delicate balance of fruit, floral and spice qualities throughout. The finish was long and left me wanting more. On paper, this sounds like an average tasty malbec, but it was really much more. It showed an incredible depth and complexity of flavors that is unreal for a wine costing just $13. In my opinion, malbec doesn’t get much better than this.
Conclusion: If you are a malbec afficionado, skip the rest and try this malbec.
My rating: my first 9.5/10!
Music paring: La llama que llama, isn’t music, but rather an Argentine telecom ad that was popular in the 1990′s in Argentina.
